The KLEIN RIVIER ASSOCIATION of BOATING (KRAB) plays a vital role in protecting and managing the Klein River estuary in Stanford, operating under a mandate from the Overstrand local municipality to support oversight of this important natural asset.
A key focus of our work is enforcing boating regulations and promoting water safety, ensuring that all users navigate the estuary responsibly. Through ongoing education, conservation efforts, and clear guidelines, KRAB helps balance safe recreational use with the long-term protection of the estuary’s unique biodiversity.

The Stanford Municipality area is a 'no-wake' zone. As show by the line drawn from the town through to corner 1 (the yellow line)
No power boating is permitted before sunrise or later than one hour after sunset.
Powerboats may not enter the demarcated bird sanctuary at the downstream end of the river.
All non-power driven vessels & power driven boats to keep right & pass left.
No water sports prior to 9:30am & after 5:30pm.
Water-skiing or operation of power boats at speeds above 25km/h or at planning speeds is restricted to sections of the river where there Is clearly no danger or nuisance effect on other river users or property owners & may not take place around blind corners.
All river users are to utilise appropriate saftey equipmet as required at all times.
Permits for river access must be obtained from K.R.A.B.
Corner 3 & 6 - DEAD SLOW.
No swimming in the slipway area & no trespassing onto private land/riverbank.
No illegal launching without permit.
No permit required for non-power-driven vessels.
